Renaissance Faires

Image
Nothing brings to the minds with the mention of the word Renaissance Faires than giant turkey legs, Jousting and dressing in Renaissance Garb or Medieval Garb depending on when it is supposed to take place in. There are at least one or two Renaissance Faires in almost every state in the union, and in the UK and Europe. Some Ren Faires try to be strict and be set in one particular period of time. They also have dress and costume restriction, then some are lacks on the rules for faire proper for the customers. Some even add the fantasy element into their faires.   For Us here in Washington state we have what we have named the Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire. This faire takes place the first three weekends in August of each year, and has been my home faire for many, many years. Out of all the Ren Faires that I have been to, this is one of the best and that is not a bias opinion. I will tell you why it’s because this faire does a few things that most do not do or don’t have

Reenactors

Talking about Reenactors brings up so many visions and ideas about someone’s hobby or lifestyle that they make money from. There are so many different reenactors and groups all over the world. I don’t do much cosplaying anymore because I don’t have the time. I have always been a huge of history, I even have a degree in History/Philosophy. I taught history for a yea, worked in a couple of museums and still volunteer at one. History Reenactors are some of the funniest people you will ever meet. The first time I saw reenactors was when I went on a class trip to Colonial Williamsburg, and I asked so many questions on the ideas of living in the past. This happened when I was in the fourth grade and wanted to know as much as possible my hobby at that time was reading “Almanac and Book of Facts.”. I read these books from cover to cover each year until about 1990 and started to read other information books. When I investigated becoming a reenactor, it was around the time I was a junior i

Conventions Life

Image
I have attended many conventions since I was a teenager, and some as a child. Besides the Star Wars Celebration, Star Trek Cons, or the One Ring Conventions. I have attended a couple of Library conventions which I thought were really good.   They showed at the time new technologies that the libraries were just beginning to use. Many writing conventions and journalism conventions where I always picked up something new and use to this day in my writing. There were also cultural Faires (as Faires are a sort of a convention.)   These conventions is where I would teach people about the Celtic Culture and Heritage and when we return to normal I am hoping to return doing that. As I mentioned in a previous blog that I volunteer at a couple of conventions, one being Norwescon which stands for ‘The Northwest Convention’ and is a conglomerate convention in that it combines, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Gothic and writing. Norwescon has always been one of my favourite conventions to attend

Volunteering

Image
This is a great value that some communities have forgotten about. It gives you a good feeling knowing that you’re doing something good for you community and helping others that may need it. I have been volunteering in one compacity or another with many different places for more than twenty years. For people that say they don’t have time to volunteer or they are to busy, all I say is that I went to college full time, worked full time, volunteered   and still made the board meetings of the organizations I belong to all the time, and then still have a gaming group that meets once a week to game. So, I know there is time for people to do this in their busy schedule and help their community out. The best volunteering job I have is that of inspirational work of knowing people will not go hungry each week, and I volunteer at the Edmonds Food Bank, in downtown area of Edmonds. I love it, it’s great work and have been doing that for thirteen years. So many people need food and household
